BakkesMod Troubleshooting Guide – Full Detailed Instructions

This guide covers common BakkesMod issues and provides detailed instructions for resolving each one. Follow the instructions in order, and make sure Rocket League and BakkesMod are both closed, unless otherwise specified.

Rocket League Instantly Closes or Doesn't Launch When BakkesMod is Open

Problem: Rocket League crashes or closes immediately after attempting to launch with BakkesMod enabled.

Solution:

  • This issue is similar to “Rocket League crashes when I run the injector.”
  • To restart the system completely, use the Shift Shutdown method:
    • Hold down Shift while clicking Shut Down on your PC.
    • Restart the computer after it has shut down completely.

  • After restarting
    • Run BakkesMod as administrator.
    • To repair any corrupted files, open the BakkesMod window and select File > Reinstall.

"Error Connecting to Update Server, Will Retry in a Few Minutes"

Also known as : “Error downloading update package”. The update server could be offline.”

Solution:

  1. Use the Shift Shutdown technique.
  2. Reboot your system and launch the mod again.
  3. Run BakkesMod as administrator and choose File > Reinstall.

Injection Failed – Download vc_redist... (Usually on Windows 7)

Cause: This problem usually occurs on systems running Windows 7.

Solution:

  1. Perform a Shift Shutdown.
  2. BakkesMod’s latest Windows 7 version is available at BakkesModdownload.com.
  3. Apply the following settings:
    • Right-click BakkesMod.exe > Properties.
    • Navigate to the Compatibility tab.
    • Select “Run this program as an administrator”.
    • Set the compatibility mode to Windows 7.
    • Click Apply then OK.

Injector Doesn't Open but is Active in Task Manager

Solution:

  • Set your Windows display language to English (United States).
  • Restart your computer and try to launch again.

Plugin Manager Not Opening (Console Error: No Mapping for the Unicode Character)

The error message reads: 

“Error loading plugin pluginmanager, reason: No mapping for the Unicode character exists in the target multi-byte code page.”

Solution:

  • Create a thread in the BakkesMod subreddit explaining the problem.
  • Please include your BakkesMod.log file for support.
  • Log file location:
    %appdata%\BakkesMod \BakkesMod\BakkesMod.log

Plugin Manager Error: LoadLibrary Returned NULL (Error Code 126)

Cause: 

This indicates that some files failed to download properly during installation.

Solution:

  1. Run BakkesMod as an Administrator.
  2. To re-download missing components, select File > Reinstall.
  3. If this fails:
    • Download the most recent version of BakkesMod from BakkesModdownload.com.
    • Launch the installer as Administrator.
  4. Make sure BakkesMod is whitelisted in your antivirus.
    • If necessary, follow your antivirus’s specific instructions to allow the application.

Antivirus False Positives – newinjectorsetup.exe

Cause: Recent updates to antivirus software may produce false positives.

Solution:

  • It is safe to download BakkesMod from BakkesModdownload.com.
  • Ignore the warnings, or better yet, whitelist the installer and files.
  • Use your antivirus’s exception list to avoid future blocking.

Manually Update BakkesMod

Steps:

  1. Go to: BakkesMod Updater
  2. Find the line that says “download_url” near the bottom.
  3. Copy the full download link for the most recent version (which ends in.zip).
  4. Enter the URL into your browser to download the ZIP.
  5. In BakkesMod, select File > Open BakkesMod Folder.
  6. Extract the ZIP contents into the specified folder.
  7. Check the version.txt file in C:\Users\{USERNAME}\AppData \Roaming\BakkesMod \BakkesMod.
  8. Make sure the version number matches the ZIP file. If not, repeat the process.

Manually uninstalling BakkesMod

Steps:

  1. In BakkesMod, select File > Open BakkesMod Folder.
  2. Close BakkesMod, and then remove the entire BakkesMod folder.
  3. Delete BakkesMod.exe (optional; simply stop opening it).
  4. Delete these additional files.
    • injectorlog.log from %temp%
    • bmupdate.zip (also in %temp% if present)
    • Registry key: HKEY_CURRENT_USER \Software\BakkesMod
    • If auto-start is enabled, remove BakkesMod from:
      HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \SOFTWARE\Microsoft \Windows\CurrentVersion \Run
  5. Alternatively, use the community-created BakkesMod Uninstaller.

Locating Logs and Crash Dumps

If you need to ask for help, include these files.

  • Mini-dump files:
    C:\Users\{User}\Documents\My Games\Rocket League\TAGame\Logs
    (look for RL-v2…Date-Time.dmp)
  • BakkesMod.log:
    %appdata% \BakkesMod\BakkesMod
  • injectorlog.log:
    %temp%
  • Rocket League’s launch.log and any crash dumps:
    Documents\My Games\Rocket League\TAGame\Logs

Unable to Install Plugins from bakkesplugins.com

Cause: Installation buttons frequently fail due to browser or injector issues.

Workaround 1: Command Line Installation

  1. In Rocket League, press F6 to access the console.
  2. Type bpm_install ###, replacing ### with the plugin ID.
    • Example: For AlphaConsole, type bpm_install 108
  3. After installing:
    • Restart Rocket League or enter cl_settings_refreshplugins in console.

Workaround 2: GUI Installation:

  1. Press the F2 key in Rocket League.
  2. Navigate to the Plugins tab > Plugin Manager.
  3. Choose “Install by ID” and enter the plugin number (e.g., 108).

Removing Plugins

Step 1: Unloading.

  1. Press F2 to open Rocket League and then Plugins > Plugin Manager.
  2. Uncheck the plugins you wish to disable.

If Rocket League crashes, you can do the following:

  • Navigate to BakkesMod folder (File > Open BakkesMod Folder).
  • Navigate to the configuration folder.
  • Open the plugins.cfg file in a text editor.
  • Remove lines that begin with “plugin load pluginname.”

Step 2: Remove

  1. In the same BakkesMod directory:
    • Delete the plugin.dll files from the plugins folder.
    • Remove any.set files from the plugins\settings folder that correspond to the removed plugins.

Crashes on Intel Integrated Graphics (iGPU)

Cause: Certain Intel iGPUs crash during swapchain initialization.

Fix:

  1. Open the BakkesMod folder by selecting File > Open BakkesMod Folder.
  2. Launch Notepad and navigate to BakkesMod.log.
  3. Scroll down to the bottom. If the final line is:
    • “Creating swapchain, windowed = true”, proceed.
  4. Open the Intel Graphics Command Center.
    • Disable Rocket League’s graphics enhancements and overrides.
